Addressing Plastic Pollution & Reef Health in the Bay of BengalLatest update April 24, 2019 Started on April 24, 2019
Create awareness about Plastic Pollution in Oceans - through the sport of sailing and scuba diving. We speak at events, conduct clean ups and senstise public about the toxic effects of plastic pollution in our oceans and reef preservation.
It started as an awareness project - All Woman’s Sailing Team from India - to talk about the effects of plastic pollution in our oceans.
We have national/ international level athletes who are part of the team.
We are also collaborating with a scuba diving school that works in the same waters we sail in (South India - Bay of Bengal) who conduct clean ups on the ocean floor regularly (plastic, fishnets, garbage)
Our aim is to make this a national movement - to involve as many people who are active in water sports in India/Asia to take a role in protecting our environment. We are losing coral reefs to pollution and global warming, as more awareness builds we hope to implement reef protection plans. In the future we plan on collaborating with students/ marine biologists to conduct research to enable better methods of exploring the vast unknown ocean floors of our oceans around Southern India to further our efforts of protecting our reefs and reducing the harmful effects of plastic pollution.
