The Murky Waters of a Salt Marsh EstuaryLatest update December 18, 2018 Started on December 18, 2018
What lies beneath the murky waters of the Port Royal Sound's waterways is somewhat of a mystery due to its turbid silty waters. We hope to capture what the benthic ecosystem of the sound consist of in order to educate and preserve.
The Port Royal Sound is a unique estuarine system, one of the deepest natural harbors on the east coast United States, no industry, no dredging, and very high salinity. With such unique features little research is done here besides the occasional fish counts carried out by SCDNR. We are going to use the Trident ROV to capture real time footage of our benthic ecosystem for education, research and conservation.
